The Science Supporting HIIT and Fat Burning by Quinn Carter

For good reason, High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) has exploded the fitness scene. Renowned fitness guru Quinn Carter delves further into the research to explain why HIIT is among the best strategies for general metabolic health and fat burning.

Unlike conventional steady-state cardio, HIIT alternates between brief recuperation intervals and short bursts of intensive exercise, producing a strong physiological reaction that keeps your body burning calories long after your workout stops.

Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption (EPOC), often known as the “afterburn effect,” is fundamental in HIIT’s potency. Quinn says that HIIT’s rigorous intensity causes an oxygen deficit in your body, which drives it to work harder after exercise in order to balance things.

This process raises your metabolic rate, which fuels ongoing calorie burning for up to 24 to 48 hours following activity. In the same length of time, studies have found HIIT can burn up to 25–30% more calories than traditional kinds of exercise.

Another important consideration is how well HIIT targets fat while preserving lean muscular mass. While HIIT’s intense motions—such as sprints, burpees, or kettlebell swings—engage fast-twitch muscle fibers, therefore fostering strength and endurance—traditional long-duration exercise can occasionally cause muscle loss. Because muscle tissue burns more calories at rest than fat tissue, Quinn stresses that keeping a good metabolism depends on this muscular upkeep.

Quinn also stresses HIIT’s flexibility. HIIT may be customized to your fitness level by changing the intensity, length, or kind of exercise regardless of your degree of experience as an accomplished athlete or novice. Perfect for hectic schedules, even a 15 to 20 minute session may have major impact.

For anyone trying to maximize fat reduction, Quinn advises mixing HIIT with strength training and a healthy diet. Though HIIT is a great technique on its own, combining it with other good practices has a synergistic impact for long-term success.

Knowing the physics behind HIIT will help you to maximize it in terms of body transformation and metabolic increase. Quinn Carter’s observations show that, when it comes to burning fat, quality always beats quantity.
