Some treatments relax muscles. Others boost collagen. Others remove damaged surface skin so fresher skin can show through.

That is why there is no single “best” option. Botox does not do what fillers do. Fillers do not do what lasers do. And lasers do not replace sunscreen, retinoids, or a good barrier repair routine.

In other words, the right choice depends on whether your main issue is movement, volume, pigment, or collagen loss.

1) Botox and Other Neuromodulators

Best for: forehead lines, frown lines, crow’s feet, downturned mouth, chin dimpling, and early prevention

Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, Jeuveau, and Daxxify all belong to the same general category. They relax targeted facial muscles so repeated facial movement does not crease the skin as much. This makes them one of the best treatments for expression lines.

What I like about this category is speed. Results are usually noticeable fairly fast, and the treatment itself is usually quick. For clients in their late 20s to 40s with early forehead lines or deep “11” lines, this is often the treatment that gives the clearest return on investment.

Typical cost: The American Society of Plastic Surgeons lists the average physician fee for botulinum toxin injections at $435, but your final bill can be higher depending on provider skill, area treated, and number of units used.

Pros:

    • Works well for movement-related wrinkles
    • Fast appointments
    • Little downtime for most people
    • Can be used preventively in the right patient

Cons:

    • Temporary
    • Not a fix for volume loss or skin texture
    • Bad technique can look frozen or uneven

2) Dermal Fillers

Best for: volume loss, under-eye hollowing in selected cases, cheeks, lips, marionette lines, jawline support, and facial balancing

Fillers restore volume. They are not wrinkle erasers in the broad sense people often expect. Used well, they can soften shadows, support facial structure, and create a fresher look. Used poorly, they can make the face look puffy, heavy, or overfilled.

This is where I encourage caution. Fillers can be excellent, but they should support the face, not reshape it beyond recognition. For mature clients, small amounts placed strategically often look far better than chasing every line.

Typical cost: According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the average physician fee for hyaluronic acid fillers is $715, while non-hyaluronic acid fillers average $901. Many people need more than one syringe, so total costs often rise quickly.

Pros:

    • Good for age-related volume loss
    • Can refresh the face without surgery
    • Some products offer immediate visible improvement

Cons:

    • Costs can add up fast
    • Results depend heavily on injector skill
    • Not ideal for every line or every face

My coaching note: If your concern is “I look tired” rather than “I have forehead lines,” fillers may help more than Botox. But conservative treatment matters.

3) Microneedling

Best for: early wrinkles, enlarged pores, acne scars, mild texture issues, and collagen support

Microneedling works by creating controlled micro-injuries in the skin, which encourages repair and collagen production. In the right hands, it can improve texture and soften fine lines over time. It is not instant, but it is one of my favorite “steady improvement” treatments.

For clients who are not ready for injectables or aggressive lasers, microneedling often sits in the sweet spot between results and cost. It is also popular for people who want a more natural-looking collagen-based approach.

Typical cost: Prices vary by location and whether the treatment includes extras like radiofrequency or PRP. A common range in many markets is roughly $200 to $800 per session, while advanced versions can cost more.

Pros:

    • Helpful for texture and mild lines
    • Supports collagen production
    • Often lower cost than major laser work

Cons:

    • Usually needs a series of sessions
    • Results build gradually
    • Not the best choice for severe sagging or deep folds

My coaching note: If your skin looks rough, dull, or tired rather than deeply aged, microneedling can be a smart first investment.

4) Chemical Peels

Best for: dull skin, mild discoloration, fine lines, acne marks, and uneven tone

Chemical peels remove damaged outer layers of skin so fresher, smoother skin can come forward. There are light peels, medium peels, and deeper peels. The stronger the peel, the stronger the result potential, but also the more healing and risk involved.

I like chemical peels for clients dealing with sun damage, mild pigmentation, and rough texture. They can be especially helpful when paired with a good home routine that includes sunscreen and retinoids.

Typical cost: Costs vary a lot depending on peel depth, provider, and region. Many light peels are on the lower end of the anti-aging cost scale, while medium and deep peels are more expensive. The more important point is safety: the American Academy of Dermatology advises choosing a qualified dermatologist or dermatologic surgeon because outcome quality depends heavily on who performs the peel.

  • Choose lasers if you want stronger change in texture, sun damage, or deeper signs of aging.

In real life, the best plans often combine treatments. For example, a client in her 40s with forehead lines, sun spots, and early volume loss may do best with a small amount of Botox, a brightening home routine, and a resurfacing treatment later. That is often smarter than spending the whole budget on one thing.

  2. Check your downtime tolerance. Some people want lunch-break treatments. Others can handle a week of healing.
