Isla Benton’s No-Added-Sugar Recipes to Beat Cravings Naturally

Isla Benton used to start every morning with sweetened coffee and a muffin. “I needed something quick, and sugar gave me that instant boost,” she admits. But by mid-morning, the crash hit hard—fatigue, brain fog, and more cravings.

She didn’t consider herself a “sugar addict,” but when her energy rollercoaster started affecting her work and mood, she took a closer look. “I started reading labels and realized sugar was hiding in things I didn’t expect—pasta sauce, salad dressing, even crackers.”

Going cold turkey wasn’t her style, so Isla made it her mission to create no-added-sugar recipes that actually satisfied her. Her rule was simple: keep the flavor, ditch the crash.

She swapped out refined sugars for natural whole foods—like dates, bananas, and cinnamon. Her breakfasts evolved into chia puddings with mashed berries, or warm oatmeal with a spoonful of almond butter. For snacks, she leaned on roasted nuts, avocado toast, or frozen grapes when she wanted something cold and sweet.

The biggest surprise? Her cravings faded. “Once I stopped feeding the sugar cycle, I stopped thinking about sweets all day,” she says.

Friends noticed the difference too—her skin cleared up, her mood was steadier, and she no longer needed three cups of coffee just to function. “I’m not anti-sugar,” Isla clarifies. “But I’m done with sugar controlling me.”

She still enjoys dessert—just differently. A homemade apple crisp with no added sugar, or a square of dark chocolate after dinner. “It’s about intention,” she says. “Not deprivation.”
