Olivia Sanders didn’t imagine that adding more fat would be part of the answer when she started out trying to reduce weight. Olivia remembers avoiding fats years ago as she believed they would induce weight gain. “But once I learnt about the benefits of healthy fats, everything changed.”
She began by including avocados into her dishes either blended into smoothies or as a spread on whole-grain bread. “Avocados are my go-to because they keep me full for hours and are high in good fats,” she says. Salmon is another favourite of hers since it is high in omega-3 fatty acids that boost general health in addition to aid in weight loss.
She started include seeds and nuts as yet another staple of her diet. Olivia now nibbles on almonds, walnuts, and sunflower seeds rather than sugary treats. “They’re the ideal way to satisfy cravings without the sugar crash later,” she says.
Her health path has also changed with cooking using olive oil rather than processed vegetable oils. She says: “I used to use a lot of margarine and other unhealthy fats, but switching to olive oil has helped me feel lighter and less bloated.”
Olivia discovered she could control her weight without feeling deprived by emphasising nutrient-dense fats. “Fat isn’t the enemy—it’s about choosing the proper kinds of fat that work with your body, not against it.”
