Giving up Coke proved difficult for Violet White. Like many others, she delighted in the effervescent, reviving taste and the rapid energy boost it offered. She realized it was time to change though, after learning more about the consequences of more sugar—weight gain, energy dips, and even long-term health hazards.
“I wanted not to rely on sweet beverages to get through the day,” Violet says. “But ordinary water felt too boring, so I had to find something just as exciting as soda—without all the sugar.”
She began then experimenting with naturally flavored beverages. Quickly, infused water became into a favorite. She found she could produce cool tastes without any extra sweets by introducing fresh fruits as lemon, berries, or cucumbers to her water.
Still another revolutionary change was sparkling water. Violet says, “I discovered it was the fizz, not the sugar I was missing.” “So I started drinking sparkling water with a squeeze of citrus or a splash of unsweeteled fruit juice, and it totally satisfied my cravings.”
She looked for a more consoling alternative in herbal drinks. Flavours such peppermint, chamomile, and hibiscus, served hot or cold, provided the diversity she required. “Some herbal teas are naturally sweet, thus they make a great substitute without any added sugar,” she says.
A mainstay also became coconut water, particularly following exercise. Coconut water is naturally hydrating and high in electrolytes unlike sports drinks loaded with synthetic components. She says, “It’s slightly sweet on its own; it feels like a treat without being unhealthy.”
Violet has seen significant changes in her energy level and general well-being since she started drinking no-added-sugar beverages. Her skin looks better than it has ever done, and she no more suffers sugar crashes. Now she says, “I feel so much better.” The nicest thing is, I hardly miss Coke anymore.
Her counsel to everyone trying to cut back on sweet drinks? “Look for what suits you.” You just have to give them a try; there are so many wonderful, natural choices available.
Violet now finds great enjoyment in staying hydrated without any guilt.
