Smoothies are daily ritual for Xena Turner to strengthen her immune system, not only a reward. She depends on superfood-packed smoothies to be healthy year-round since she balances a hectic schedule with an active lifestyle.
“I used to get sick all the time, especially during seasons changes,” Xena says. “But I noticed a big difference once I started including more immune-boosting components to my smoothies.”
Turmeric is among her preferred components. Well-known for its anti-inflammatory action, it supports general immune system function. She advises “just a pinch of turmeric with a dash of black pepper makes a big impact.”
She also pledges allegiance to citrus fruits. Rich in vitamin C, oranges, lemons, and grapefruits let the body fight against diseases. “When I need an immunity boost, I go for a smoothie including fresh orange juice, ginger, and a handful of spinach,” she explains.
Still another secret ingredient? Greek yogurt. Full of probiotics, it helps gut health—a major factor in immunity. She chooses coconut yogurt or kefir when she seeks a dairy-free substitute.
Xena usually adds flaxseeds and chia seeds for an extra dose of nutrition. “They are bursting with omega-3s, fiber, and antioxidants—all vital for maintaining your body’s strength,” she says.
Xena has found less colds, increased energy, and improved digestion since including superfoods into her smoothies. She comments, “It’s amazing how much of a difference little changes can make.” “The best thing is, depending on what your body requires, smoothies are quite easy to alter.”
