“Feeding your family wholesome meals doesn’t have to break the budget,” explains mother of three clean-eating enthusiast Eliza Grant. Eliza’s goal is to enable families adopt clean eating without overspending given growing shopping costs.
Whole, minimally processed foods abound in clean eating. Think fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains, Eliza says. Her first piece of advice is Create your dinner plans.
“You’re less prone to grab pricey convenience foods when you have a plan,” she explains.
She also advises making large purchases. “Staple foods like oats, rice, and beans are quite reasonably priced,” she says. Another financial saver is seasonal food. “When fruits and vegetables are in season, they’re cheaper and taste better,” Eliza says.
Vegetable soups and casseroles are two freezer-friendly dishes Eliza enjoys. “Cooking in bulk not only saves time but also lessens food waste,” she notes. She advises homemade granola bars or air-popped popcorn as snack food. She giggles, “Healthy doesn’t have to mean fancy.”
Budgetwise, clean eating is about imagination and wise decisions. As Eliza says, “Every family can afford healthy food; you just need the correct tools and attitude.”
